Role Play - Synopsis

"You be me, I'll be him."

Role Play is the dark reflection of a fairy tale.

Alice grew up in a nice house. And of course she played princess, like the other girls in her neighborhood. She even had a play castle in the basement.

At 12, she was kidnapped and held prisoner by a man who wanted her to role play with him. He saw her as Beauty to his Beast. "At first Beauty's scared, just like you," he told her, "then she comes to love him."

To survive, she had to play a role. Eventually, she got too old for fairy tales. Luckily, she escaped before he killed her.

Now she's playing another role – media princess. Her smiling face is on magazine covers. She's the feel-good story of the moment, and a perky teen star, Molly Martinez, is going to play her in a biopic.

When Molly visits Alice to prepare for the role, Alice can't tell her what happened in her abductor's basement. She can only show Molly. They'll role play. "You be me, I'll be him."

It's too much for Molly. She's never gone to the scary place Alice had to go.

But having revealed her most humiliating secret, Alice won't accept Molly blowing her off. And she knows Molly's deepest fear. Which she forces Molly to confront. She takes an unwilling Molly to the place of helplessness and despair that Alice had to go.

And Alice herself goes to a place we never expected.
